Many enjoy the freshly made meals, particularly the Sunday roast, touted as one of the best in the area. Diners rave about the river views from the seating areas, which enhances their dining experience, especially during sunny days. The pub dog, a charming blue Staffordshire Bull Terrier named Blue, captures hearts and adds a friendly touch to the ambiance. The wide selection of ales and spirits caters to everyone, ensuring something for every palate. The cozy nooks and traditional decor enhance the charm, creating a space where you want to linger longer. Additionally, the live music events are a favorite, providing entertainment that brings the community together.
While The Cross Keys is generally well-loved, some patrons mention that the vegetarian and vegan options are limited, which could deter those with dietary preferences. A few diners have expressed that the bustling atmosphere during peak hours can lead to slower service, particularly on Friday evenings or during major events. Some reviewers also wished for expanded lunch options, especially during weekdays. A consistent point of feedback is the wait for food during busy times; although the quality is usually worth it, some diners prefer quicker service. And while the pub's character is often celebrated, a few guests noted that the interior can feel a bit cramped during busy periods.
First time visiting for a Sunday lunch after much recommendation. Absolutely worth every bit of praise! Beautiful building set by the river Pang, service was lovely, food was incredible and very home made, every comfort of Sunday roasts of old.
What a lovely pub. Good selection of ales and food is of good quality, my only criticism is that there are limited options for veggies and not sure there are any options for vegans! Fortunately I'm neither 🙂. Some nice little cubbyholes inside and seating by the lovely river/stream is tranquil. Staff are really friendly and the pub has a lovely steal blue staffy that is wonderfully friendly and has eyes making it unresistable to not give it a triple cooked chip. Love this pub 😀
A great marker is the pub dog and the cross keys has the beautiful and calm blue and very friendly boy. We only popped in for a couple of drinks, however sitting in the cozy bar next to the kitchen, the smells and sights coming out soon had our tummies rumbling, so a pint of Level head, one of the cheapest I've had and a dry white was accompanied by a delicious battered fish and chips. Landlord while rushed off his feet had time to chat along with friendly locals. If nothing go for a level head and a chat and a pat with Blue
Popped in for a drink and food with work colleagues. Food is amazing, great place with lovely staff. John the landlord could not have been more welcoming. See you soon
just had a fantastic meal at The Cross Keys in Pangbourne, and honestly, it’s the best it’s been in years. I had the mussels (perfectly cooked and full of flavour), chips (crisp and golden), and a prawn sandwich that was unexpectedly delicious — simple but done really well. The real standout, though, is the new landlord, John. He’s completely turned the place around. It feels warm, welcoming, and well looked-after — such a refreshing change after it had been run into the ground by the previous owners. It finally feels like a place worth visiting again, whether for a casual meal or just to enjoy the atmosphere. Highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area. Great food, friendly service, and a much-needed transformation. Well done, John!
Absolutely amazing place! The burger is great. And the chocolate fountain - perfect! The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. I'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommended!
